Square Enix’s multiplayer game Foamstars is set to launch on PlayStation on February 6. Similar to Fall Guys, Foamstars will be available as a free download for PlayStation Plus subscribers in February. The game will be accessible for free from February 6th to March 4th for subscribers to PS Plus Essential, Extra, and Premium, as well as available for purchase on the PlayStation Store for $29.99 after March 5 for non-subscribers.
Foamstars is a 4v4 shooter game with similarities to Nintendo’s Splatoon, focusing on teamwork and using each other’s qualities to defeat opponents. The game will feature modes such as Rubber Duck Party, Mission Mode, and Squad Mission, with regular free updates and an optional seasonal pass for $5.99 including new cosmetics, characters, and modes.
In Foamstars, players must coat the area with their team’s color to gain an advantage and hinder their opponents, with the foam being a 3D matter. Additionally, Toylogic, the video game developer, used the generative AI program Midjourney to implement AI-generated illustrations in the game, specifically for the in-game album covers for the Foamstars’ soundtrack.
The development team at Square Enix utilized Midjourney with simple prompts to produce abstract images for the album covers, adding a unique artistic element to the game. This collaboration between AI and human creativity showcases the innovative approach taken in the development of Foamstars.
